Great salmon fishing weekend for our guests. ATV trails opened and it's a beautiful day. A little cool breeze but the sun is out and the skies are blue. Life is good

Big Wood is still providing hours and days of Ice Fishing fun. Rich and his son Corey were here for the week on their annual ice fishing trip. They did great almost every day. Rich said they caught a lot of salmon but many were just a tad too small.

These guys had a great 3 day fishing trip. Below is the catch of the day though...a 28 inch Togue.

The ice shacks have been on Big Wood for at least a couple weeks now but today begins ice fishing season for 2010. Our guests so far have been doing great. Brian got a huge "fat splake" this morning plus a couple brook trout. They said the ice is at

Big Wood Lake is ready for the ice fishing season...at least 4 inches a couple days ago. Today a few ice shacks went out.

I looked out the window this evening and saw this: that ice shack way off by the island, dark and alone and yet

It did not take long for the boats to get out on Wood Pond to do the spring fishing that all have been waiting for. I saw at lest 4 different boats out this morning.
Just a note about the weather in Jackman...and this probably holds true for all

BBRRRR!!! The wind chill has been pretty chilly this weekend. Even though the sun is out right now, as you can see from this snapshot from our webcam, the lake has begun to ice over.

Dakota and his family stayed with us last week and they had many days of fishing out on Big Wood. Grampa caught this one but the way Dakota looked at the fish as he held it was priceless!

What an incredible weekend to enjoy Father's Day in Jackman. It is about 80 degrees, a gentle breeze, the sun is shining and the skies are blue and best of all, no humidity We have a couple families here this weekend spending time with the Dad's including father/son

The spring fishing this year on big Wood Lake, from our guest reports, has been great. Most only Catch and release but are amazed at the number they are catching

As you can see from the photo above which was taken only 2 days ago, there is still plenty of snow in the region to ride. The temperatures are moderate yet cold enough to keep the trails in great shape.

The 2008 ice fishing season has begun and Big Wood Lake has come alive with sledders or ATV pulling their gear in hopes of getting their catch of the day....

Where did it go?

Let me start with how the lake looked yesterday. There was open water on both sides of the lake with patches of water throughout the ice in the center. Then the winds started; high

It's hard to believe that about 10 days ago, there were still crazy snowmobilers riding the lake to get to the trails
Last weekend, the temperatures were in the low 60's with a warm factor (the temperature in the sun),
of about 80. Wow, it was beautiful out.

Father and son have been here fishing all week. When the temperatures were in the single numbers and the wind was blowing, they built themselves a snow wall right on shore to watch for their flags. These are ice fisherman!!!!

They have done great all week
