You would not think it is spring in Jackman yet as we had another dusting of snow last night. Our temperatures though are above freezing, even at night, so it seems to melt off everyday. Big Wood is still solid white with no sign that it is going away anytime soon.
I was reminded by a friend that 3 years ago, I posted on Facebook on April 12th, that I heard the first loon of the year. Not the case this year at all. I wonder if they may just hang out in the rivers nearby?
And yet, there are other signs of spring. The wildlife are coming out of the woods. We are seeing and hearing birds in the trees, geese are flying overhead, I saw a mynx running across route 201 last week and 2 fox coming back from Rockwood. A few days ago, there was a deer in our yard! We have never seen a deer here this close to town. Could it be because there is still so much snow in the woods and here nearer to town, where it is more open, they are in search of food?
Unfortunately, I also saw, (almost certain) a coyote walking along our shore 2 weeks ago.
So, the wildlife know spring has arrived, now we just need Mother Nature to get it.
